One if by Land, Two if by D.C.
On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere raced from Boston to spread the warning that British troops would be threatening the countryside come morning. Two lanterns were hung in this steeple to communicate to nearby patriots where the threat was coming from; one if by land, two if by sea.
Paul Revere’s midnight message reverberated through the countryside and by the following day 4,000 patriots answered the call to protect the liberty of their neighbors, their families, and themselves in the first battle of the American Revolution.
250 years later, tyranny has returned. Let us honor the moral fortitude and bravery of Paul Revere and those 4,000 Massachusetts patriots and send forth the “cry of defiance and not fear.” Let Boston once more be the beacon in the country’s hour of darkness and relight the rallying signal to protect our liberty. One if by land, two if by D.C.
